Wine and Cheese Party

My friend was hosting a benefit for her non-profit (Mika: Community Development Organization) in Corona Del Mar last night. It was a winetasting with wines from a local faith based vineyard. They featured wines such as ‘Psalms’ and ‘RatZinger’. They were very good! Unfortunantly they were only selling cases at the benefit, so I couldn’t very well justify spending $300 for a case of wine. However, I want to gte some individual bottles.

Anyway, she asked me if I could take care of the food. Create the menu and make sure it all got there and looked pretty. OH COURSE I will do it. Oh, and it was at a $20 million dollar home on the beach in CDM. Insane, I know. So I did some wine and cheese pairing research and came up with a great menu to compliment the 5 wines featured.

Pear and Gorgonzola Cheesecake
Brie, Cheddar and Chevre Cheese
Antipasto Platter: Italian meats, Mozzarella, Olives and a Mushroom Duxelles (lieka Mushroom Tepenade).
Lemon Tea Cakes with Chopped Nectarines (Buy the cake premade at Costco and just throw some fresh fruit on them to make them look homemade)
Brownie Bites with white chocolate drizzle (Costco’s brownie bites, and I just melted some white chocolate and drizzled it on them. Then I chopped some strawberries and sprinkled them on the brownies and the plate).

For feeding 75 people, the food was so easy with the help of Costco. I was trying to listen to people talk about the food, and no one had any idea it was all from Costco. They actually thought I homemade everything. I let some people know my secret, but for others, I just let them continue thinking I was a freaking master baker.

Everything was great. The only negeative part, which can easily be turned into a positive, is that I had tons of food leftover. And sure, Costco will refund my money if I take it back. But they will just throw it away. So I had to make a quick decision. I decided to keep all the food and just give it away to everyone who helped with the wine tasting.

The lighting was wonderful for food pictures. normally I can’t take a decent picture to save my life. But somehow, yesterday it went okay. They aren’t the best, but for me, they are pretty good pictures.
