Fall Favorites

Posted on September 10, 2009. Filed under: Cooking Class |

Well, in case you didn’t know, I occasionally teach cooking classes at my house. I live in a really old little apartment. But, we LOVE it there. We absolutely love being home. We love coming home when we are away. We love having people over. I love my kitchen. I love cooking in my kitchen. So even though we live in a place that has carpet that out dates me and the smallest dishwasher you have ever seen, it is home, and we love it.
Jon and I agree that hospitality is essential for us. We are always welcoming people into our home. And what better way to bring people together and welcome them in our home then to cook! Eating a meal together really connects people on a level they may not have connected before. And preparing the meals brings people even closer. It brings immediate conversation all through the night.

I have taught/hosted many cooking classes over the past few years. But this is the first one I am blogging about. Usually there are about 5-6 people who come to my classes. Since I live in a little place, that is the perfect number for everyone to crowd around the kitchen and participate and have a good time. Last night there were 14 of us. It was more like a housing party with great food, friends and drinks. Which was really fun, just not really a cooking class. The theme was ‘Fall Favorites.’ Sort of kicking off the fall with some delicious food, herbs and scents that remind us of thanksgiving.

Friends- I love that my house was loud and conversation was easily flowing for over 3 hours. You guys are all the best!

Here is the menu for the evening:

Cranberry lemonade Sangria

Apple Spice Hummus
Cranberry Brie

Butternut Squash Lasagna
Apple Salad with Cranberry Vinaigrette

Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls

Everything turned out wonderful. The hummus was interesting. Some critique is to maybe do less peanut butter and more apple. Maybe I will add applesauce next time?
Lasagna and cinnamon rolls were absolutely incredible. They were right up my alley on the flavors I dream about collaborating.

Leave a comment and let me know hat you liked/didn’t like about the class.

What type of class would you like to go to next:
All Desserts…All the time
Vegetables are Fun
Stretching a Buck
Elegant Entertaining
Comfort Foods
