Bridal/Baby Shower tips

Posted on August 24, 2009. Filed under: Showers |

I love catering bridal and baby showers. Girls love fancy little finger foods. And they appreciate more quality ingredients rather then just a fatty burger on a bun. So at a shower you can be creative and make so many different options. And the themes are endless!

Lately I have had some requests from friends on what ideas I have for food at bridal and baby showers. Since there are so many different themes and styles these showers have there isn’t 1 standard appetizer or dessert. But there are some that are always a huge hit. And I thought I would share those based on my experience.

Something you always need to remember is the crowd you are trying to please. How old are they? Are they health conscious? Do they have dietary restrictions?

Certain age groups eat more then others. My grandma eats about half the amount I do. And my mom eats about twice as much as I do. So you want to make sure you have enough food. But you also don’t want to overwhelm guests and make them feel like they have to partake in gluttony to eat all you have prepared. Not every dish you make has to be the star of the show.

One huge mistake I see many showers make is in the dessert department. As much as people may think that a cake is traditional, now and days, it isn’t. Guests would so much rather indulge in an amazing chocolate torte, or a fabulous coconut cupcake. Or a peanut butter whoopie pie. Ladies don’t want to waste their calories on a dry, plastic tasting frosting store bought cake. Sorry to bust tour bubble. If you insist on cake, make sure it is from a bakery you have used before. And you know their cakes are moist and their frosting doesn’t taste like a combination of plastic and rubber.

Read some other entries under ‘Showers’ to view some sample menus. If you have any questions or need recommendations for a shower or party you are throwing, just ask. I love talking about food for fun gatherings!
