Basic Marinara Sauce

Posted on March 31, 2009. Filed under: Pasta |

I make this sauce at least a couple times a month. It is extremely versatile and delicious.

Feeds 4-6 people
Marinara Sauce
1 can tomato sauce (28 ounces)
1 can diced tomatoes (15 ounces), with juice
1 can tomato paste (6 ounces)
1/4 cup fresh basil,
1 tbsp dried oregano
1 tsp black pepper
2 cloves chopped garlic
1/4 cup white wine
1/2 tsp kosher salt

Meat Sauce:
1 lb cooked ground beef
1 c. chopped mushrooms

1 lb bag of pasta of your choice (I like whole wheat penne)

For the sauce, add all the ingredients to a large sauce pot, and cover. Let it simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Boil the pasta to package instructions, and drain. Add pasta to the sauce, and simmer for 5 minutes. Top with Parmesan cheese and serve.

*Meat sauce; brown the ground beef, then add all the remaining ingredients to the pot and continue with marinara instructions.
