New York City- Max Brenner

Posted on January 29, 2009. Filed under: Restaurant Recommendations |

When you walk in you can smell the chocolate oozing from the seems and through the walls. You can see some of the chocolate being stirred in an industrial size machine. They have many of the desserts and pastries in a window for you to see them being made. Jon and I were so excited to see all of this. We were starving and glad we randomly bumped into this place, Max Brenner, near Union Square. We went there twice. Once for dinner and once for lunch. Here is a sample of what we ordered:
Dinner:
Marinara Penne– we shared this. It was warmed us since it was so cold outside, and was the perfect size to share.
Banana and Hazelnut Cream Crepe– I orderd it with Dulcede leche ice cream instead of vanilla. Oh Man, this was sensational. Packed with melted chocolate and bananas. I save dhalf of it and ate it for breakfast the next morning.
Chocolate Pizza– It is a huge piece with a pizza dough crust and melted milk and white chocolate on top. Then we added marsmallows and bananas.

Lunch
The Chocolate Banana Island– heaven!
You own Greek Tomato Feta Salad– It is full of toppings, and so refreshing.
Smoked turkey Mushroom Crepe– Warm, savory, flavorful.
The Red Heart– Chocolate Lava Cake with chocolate sauce on top, vanilla yogurt and raspberry sauce. The raspberry sauce made it for me. Tart and sweet. The perfect contrast for the decadent cake.

If you are ever in NYC, find the location nearest to you. Thave a few. It is so worth the stop in. Every restaurant in NY is efficient. I was most impressed with that. There would be a lobby full of people and the wait would only be 10 minutes. Tables were cleared and cleaned in seconds, and food was brought out within minutes of ordering. They let you chill and enjoy the food. They just make sure you are happy with their restaurant, because there is so much competition. If you don’t like them, they know you don’t have to come back because you will find something else. Probably just a block away.
